Hints of Heaven

Today you will be with me in paradise.

Luke 23:42

Paradise: A place of extreme beauty, supreme felicity and delight / a country or region of wonders and marvels / a place where one experiences perfect happiness, joy and bliss...heaven

I’ve been thinking about heaven a lot lately. With the recent loss of a dear friend, I now find myself daydreaming...wondering what life must be like for all of my precious friends and family who call heaven home.

Jesus spoke of mansions (John 14:2) and streets paved in gold (Revelation 21:21), so it must be quite spectacular. But, to be honest it's hard for me to wrap my mind around such a place. So, I turn my thoughts to another of Jesus' descriptions...his promise to the thief on the cross, "Today you will be with me in paradise." Paradise is a bit easier for me to imagine because God has scattered little pieces of paradise right here on earth. Little glimpses of glory...little hints of what heaven may be like.

So, I close my eyes and imagine paradise...and I can almost hear the sound of waves slapping up onto heavenly shores...

and see mountain ranges that take my breath away...

and feel lush green pastures of paradise under my barefeet...

and stand mesmerized by its windswept canyons.

I can almost smell the flowers filling the heavenly valleys and woodlands with their intoxicating perfume...

and hear songbirds singing praises to the One who opened heaven's doors to us that Easter Sunday morning long years ago...

and taste of the delights waiting for us at the heavenly banquet table.

Because of Easter...because of Christ's Cross...because of their faith in the One who made all this possible, my friends and family who've gone on before me now reside in paradise. A place of extreme beauty, supreme felicity and perfect delight, a place where they will forever bask in the beauty of our Savior.

And one day I, too, will join them there! I can hardly wait! Can you?

In a flash, in the twinkling of an eye...we will be changed.

I’m turning 62 this year. I can hardly believe it myself. But, I’ve decided that I no longer want to live comfortably. I want to live with a spirit of adventure like I had in the past. To be unafraid of what’s new or different. I want to remain so open to the Spirit of the living God that his love compels me to go wherever he leads me.

I am passionate about people leaning into all that Jesus is. You. Me. Us. Journeying together with God. This is my greatest blessing. And now that my kiddos are out on their own, I’m learning to navigate my new normal. And I am finding there is life after little ones and teens after all!

I am currently finishing my degree in relational communications and plan to graduate in the spring of 2020!! I am thankful I have had time to grow, heal, appreciate a slower pace of living, and to invest more time into relationships with family, friends, and God. Through this process I am learning what I want to prioritize in my life and figuring out ways to make that happen. Most of all, I am figuring out that life is all about process, taking steps closer to where I want to be and celebrating the little victories but also accepting that there will be setbacks and disappointments along the way.
