Choose Him

This beautiful blog is written by LuAnn's daughter, McKayla. She's wise beyond her age.

Choose him.

To abide, pursue, and invite Jesus into your life is a choice we have every day. Similar to exercising and eating healthy, the decision to include Jesus in your daily life does not often have immediate transformation.

Over time, the daily decisions of healthy nourishment and working out will begin to manifest physically. This is true with positioning spiritually also. Positioning is dire to the transformation to your heart and mind and to everything he wants to do through you. Renewing of your mind and the outflow condition of your heart comes with the small moments and decisions to pursue him in the day-to-day mundane. What if more days than not you were eating healthy and exercising? What if more days than not you were spending time abiding in his presence? How would your physical and spiritual life manifest?

You want to be filled with love?
Spend time with the one who calls himself love, and proved it with the ultimate cost.
You want to experience peace?
Spend time with the one who calls you into trust and thanksgiving.
You want freedom from darkness?
Spend time with the one who calls himself light.
You want to manifest and outpour healing?
Spend time getting to know the heart of the healer.

As I was planning to add healthier meal choices and exercise to my daily life, the Lord laid on my heart the similar transformation and importance of intentionally choosing him in my day-to-day life, and I felt him lay this on my heart:

Actively pursue me. Come away and learn with me because I have so much for your heart, soul, spirit, and mind. I am the surest foundation and the well of which you draw forth life in abundance. Do not waste a single day more. I will fulfill all of my promises to you, and they will be cultivated in these days of stillness. Abide, pursue, and seek me with all of your heart! When you have deep and strong roots planted in living water, no storm can blow you down and no temptation can overcome you. Truth replaces deception that dictates behavior. Come and let me transform your heart and mind.

You have asked me into your heart; good, that is the first step. Now choose to remain in me. Continue to live your life rooted in me. Give up the areas of your life that you cling to—trust me, with everything! You will experience true freedom, joy, and peace. The way I designed you to live. Do you not know that my commands are for you? Designed and flowing with a fiery love that I have for you? Come and abide in me my child.

You have tasted the living water, you have been immersed in the truth, yet you become distracted and your heart becomes cold. Remember who I am, stand in who you are. It is never to late to chase me my child! Come, come and see all that I have for you! Stand before me and give me what is most precious to you: your time. Stop striving and struggling towards righteous living when I pour into you light and fullness of life. I equip and train you with all that you need. My commands come easier from an outpouring of my spirit than your independent striving. Praise, thanksgiving, and obedience were not designed to stem from duty or religious tradition and teaching but instead as a response. They were designed to pour out of believing and receiving all that I am and all that I have designed you to be. They were designed to flow from an outcry of rejoicing because the truth of the Gospel when fully believed and truly accepted cannot be apathetically and passively withheld. Once you grasp its entirety, its fullness—you change. My love is beyond anything your mind can comprehend or grasp, and it is this love from which everything flows.

How you live your daily life is either in worship of self or worship to me. Every decision you make draws your further away or closer to my throne. Where you are planted determines the fruit that you bare. You have the choice, every day. The decisions that you make today determine who you become tomorrow.

The things of this world will fade. Chase eternal pursuits. Do not wait until tomorrow; if you wait until tomorrow it will be too late. Choose wisely my children, for we are in the final days. Many are still lost and every decision matters.

I have come that you may have life and have it abundantly. John 10:10

Remain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me. John 15:4

Do not work for food that spoils, but for food that endures to eternal life. John 6:27

The world and its desires pass away, but the one who does the will of God lives forever. 1 John 2:17

Christ will make his home in your hearts as you trust in him. Your roots will grow down into God's love and keep you strong. Ephesians 3:17

I’m turning 62 this year. I can hardly believe it myself. But, I’ve decided that I no longer want to live comfortably. I want to live with a spirit of adventure like I had in the past. To be unafraid of what’s new or different. I want to remain so open to the Spirit of the living God that his love compels me to go wherever he leads me.

I am passionate about people leaning into all that Jesus is. You. Me. Us. Journeying together with God. This is my greatest blessing. And now that my kiddos are out on their own, I’m learning to navigate my new normal. And I am finding there is life after little ones and teens after all!

I am currently finishing my degree in relational communications and plan to graduate in the spring of 2020!! I am thankful I have had time to grow, heal, appreciate a slower pace of living, and to invest more time into relationships with family, friends, and God. Through this process I am learning what I want to prioritize in my life and figuring out ways to make that happen. Most of all, I am figuring out that life is all about process, taking steps closer to where I want to be and celebrating the little victories but also accepting that there will be setbacks and disappointments along the way.
