I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made...
I wish that I was quick-thinking, or had a quick wit, or was just plain quick. I’m afraid I am a bit of a plodder. More turtle than hare. Slow, but, steady. Studious. Strategic. Prefer a good book to a big crowd. Always have...and at nearly 57 years of age...probably always will.
There was a time when I wasn’t as accepting of myself as I am now. A time when I tried to shove this square peg “me” into the round hole of other people’s opinions and standards.
Not that what others think isn’t important. I’m grateful for the truth-tellers in my life. But, the reality is, if we try to be something we're not, we can end up spending an entire lifetime living someone else’s God-given purpose, instead of our own.
We are fearfully and wonderfully made, dear ones, by a loving God who longs to breathe life into those unique personalities, skills, and dreams he has given to us.
So, who are you really? Are you the person your parents, friends, spouse, coworkers want you to be? Or are you the YOU God meant you to be?
“He made you you—on purpose. You are the only you—ever. Becoming ourselves means we are actively cooperating with God's intention for our lives, not fighting him or ourselves. He looks at us with pleasure and with mercy, and he wants us to look at ourselves with pleasure and mercy too!”
